Last Chance To See
The big department store at the East end of Prince’s St is closing and with the announcement of Tier 4 for all Scotland and the closure of all non-essential shops probably means that it won’t open again after the lifting of restrictions.
I remembered that this illuminated widow was at the back of the store. It dates back to 1882 when the building that was the Palace hotel was bought and turned into the Scottish Conservative Club (The Scottish Liberal Club bought next door) and the window was commissioned to commemorate the life of Benjamin Disraeli who died in 1880.
The reason for the definite sale of the store is so that the developers can move in with the now standard refit of hotel, roofline, gym and walk though shopping arcade from Prince’s St. to Rose St. Lets hope they find a place for this 140 year old window
