Rustic

Rustic but tasty souls biscuits, made using a recipe from the Hedgerow Apothecary book. Souls biscuits were apparently given to the poor during Medieval times. This version contains rich butter, spices and plump raisins so they are quite a treat.

We started the day walking the dog in the snow - quite a novelty this far south and so near the coast. Once home a mug of tea and some dark chocolate buttons returned some warmth to my body. While they were consumed I spent some time finalising the layout and drafting a planting scheme for my ‘new’ allotment plot which I’ve been digging. Fun to plan for the spring and (hopefully) sunny warm weather.

The final dog walk of the day was taken as the light faded. Baked potatoes have been eaten for dinner and the dark hours this evening are being spent catching up with one of the sailing blogs we watch - made by a Swedish couple who have been sailing the world for over two years and have reached Alaska. It looks a vast, tranquil and fascinating place - bears, whales, bald eagles, huge water falls, glaciers and hot pools featured in the episodes we watched this evening. Wonderful escapism.

I hope your day has had some brightness in it and that you can now rest warm and contented.
