The dropped stitch

In the window

Saw an interesting exhibition displayed in the windows of an empty shop in Kirkwall.

This was a community art project. Anyone with a connection to the island of North Ronaldsay was invited to contribute a photo of a still life arrangement of objects to sum up: What kept you going through Lockdown.

This photo shows the entry from a woman who had not used a sewing machine for over 30 years and challenged herself to make a replica of her favourite dress. She took the original dress apart, made a paper pattern and completed the task.

The image also records her letters written to friends and the tin whistle she took up over the Lockdown months.
