A special basket
This is part of a 'kete', a traditional Maori basket or kit, made by hand from flax fibre. The extra shows the whole kete.
It was given to our family when we left NZ in 1986, by a Maori couple who had helped care for my aunt before her death. They came to the airport to farewell us and as we moved away into the official boarding area they sang 'Pokarekare ana'. As you can imagine, it is a treasured memory and object.
