The mystery of the disappearing ??????

I got back to the car park after work today and spotted these cute little prints hop, hop, hopping from somewhere in the bushes right up to my car - then, nothing! Two questions sprung to mind...
What is it? (I suspect a squirrel, but if anyone knows for sure, please enlighten me!)
and
Where is it? (Please not in my engine or under the wheel casing!)
I had a look around, but could find nothing - not a trace. I asked Mr K to check the car again when I got home and there was no sign of anything!

Maybe a bird swooped down from above and flew off with the poor thing - whatever happened, it appears to have disappeared into thin air. I hope its okay :-)
