Waitomo Caves
Travelling home today, we stopped for a tour of the Waitomo Caves.
Not done that before, as mostly we are in too much of a rush to get home.
Famous for great glow worms, but also equally spectacular limestone caves.
Stalactites take 1000 years to grow 10cm. These have been in the making for some time.
After the visit it was onward to Auckland when the heavens opened up with a significant downpour of rain. Needless to say, too many drivers didn't adapt their driving to the conditions and we passed a very new BMW facing the wrong way on the motorway ontop of the central reservation barrier! Not the best of New Year for some.
