World famous?
Tier5/11
I headed out for a walk with my friend J and her dog Coco today. After two days of rain, it was lovely to get out. We walked to St Andrew’s church in Greensted. It’s claimed that this is the oldest wooden church in the world and probably the oldest wooden building in Europe still standing. One of the Tolpuddle martyrs, James Brine was married here after his return from transportation and before moving on to Ontario.
The extra is the plaque from one of the graves near the church, it is thought that because it’s a solid stone grave, he was a highly decorated soldier. Other records suggest he might have been a bowman
Obviously we couldn’t go inside the church, but hopefully I’ll be able to sometime in the future.
All in all it was well worth the muddy walk
