Snow Shoes
Lovely Day, Full Stop.
After a lovely sunrise (extra photo collage) and a friendly "Good Morning" exchange on Twitter of it with loads of Brits from all over Germany - and the near German in Kent - did the morning walk with Luna around Sontheim. It was quite taxing particularly a long stretch alongside an embankment - I chose the windward side with a) today's wind & RealFeel temperature of -11°C and b) the side all the snow had been heaped up in drifts. Nobody or vehicle had prepared the track for us. Even Luna got tired and laid down several times.
I was motivated to go to Sontheim as one of the correspondents from Hamburg started on about fresh breakfast rolls. I went to the bakery after the walk! Rolls have lots of different names in different parts of Germany - standard word is Brötchen, in Bavaria it's Semmel and in Hamburg Rundstück.
Back home to find the farrier - mentioned yesterday - had almost finished re-shoeing Sultan with rubber inlays to throw out the snow. Angie has not been able to ride since the snow came as it's wet and creates dangerous stilts for them to walk on. Charlie, the pony, is barefoot so no problem. Nice as always talking to him and mentioning Bliper Chris - they were both Tornado men, Chris up front & our farrier in the rear passenger seat but in two different air forces. Chris had just the other day mentioned what jets he had learnt on, in his words the "horrible" Jet Provost. His colleague said he had learnt on something with loads of numbers I couldn't remember and the Franco-German Alpha Jets. I only later found out the German Alpha Jets were also stationed at Beja in Portugal and that probably explains why the farrier and his wife went to live there when he retired. They came back to Germany about two years ago - despite loving Portugal, it can get a bit difficult if you like an orderly life 24/7/365 and when the bones ache. Chris is also a Portugal fan.
Again, more irrelevant nonsense from me.
Sent the horses out & chased them around the sand school in deep snow to get some exercise & the new shoes worked perfectly. Lovely sight as they cantered & as always rolled over in the snow. ...... Need video to see it - I posted it on Twitter for the 3 people in the world not fighting some populist racist country leader.
Three of the photos in the extra are from Angie who did the evening walk at Ottobeuren. I wish she would post her photos on her Blip a/c, She's a lot better than I am & doesn't waffle.
Have a great weekend y'all.
