The contents of the box
Yesterday’s documents on the top of the box were midwifery related. After those three were removed I set about sorting through the rest. Many of them are ‘more recent’, that is 1998 -2007, but I did find the documents in today’s blip which date from 1963 - 1966.
The booklet is my record of practical instruction and experience during my 3yrs training. The final page records the number of weeks that I worked in each speciality and is signed off by Matron. It is in remarkable good condition considering it’s age.
The green papers are my final exam papers for my State Registration. I passed first time, not everyone did. In those days you applied to a specific hospital and training was undertaken in the School of Nursing attached to that hospital. We were in school for specific periods of time for lectures ....blocks. The rest of the time we were part of the nursing team learning on the job. These days it’s a Uni course and ward time is done on placements.
I won’t start on the debate on the necessity of nurses to have degrees, there are still differing opinions 20 + years on!!!
