Getting To The Root Of It
Many of the Aspen tree trunks have been damaged and blackened, probably by deer rubbing up against them, leaving them weakened and prone to collapse.
I tried many combinations of these two trees looking for something that made sense. I think I chose this version because the mass of white branches stands out against the background trees, which I had excluded in other versions in favour of closer views of the upheaved root system.
I also liked the the repeated 'V' shape of the two trees and, although less evident in this frame, the right hand tree does serve to keep the eye in the image.
