On The Face Of It
Today's image was taken in a park in our neighbouring village of Eccles. I had actually taken some images of these sculptures yesterday on my walk but only looked at them quickly at the time, and when I got back home I realised they were out of focus. Therefore, I took a quick trip out in the car today to take a new set.
The sculptures actually consist of four multi-coloured mosaic columns (you can see one of them in the foreground in the main image) and a larger one with this face or mask at the top. I tried to take two different types of image - the main image feels quite peaceful and serene but I think the second image in black and white is actually quite menacing! Unfortunately I am not aware who the artist or sculptor is but I will endeavour to find out.
The glorious sunshine of yesterday was long gone and we were back to another cold, dull and cloudy day. I took this an opportunity to just stay warm indoors and settle down with several mugs of coffee and a pile of magazines, papers and supplements. I read articles on such diverse subjects as Sophia Loren, Bad Bunny (real name Benito Antonio Martinez
Ocasio) - the Peurto Rican singer, rapper and songwriter and the new world darts champion Gerwyn Price.
There were also several interesting book reviews - Thin Places by Kerri Ni Dochartaigh, a memoir about growing up during The Troubles in Northern Ireland, a detective novel set in 1981 by Jeff Noon called House With No Doors (I've read his first one called Slow Motion Ghosts and it was fantastic) and Sensehacking: How to Use the Power of Your Senses for Happier, Healthier Living by Charles Spence, an experimental psychologist at the University of Oxford.
