A Winters Tale

The day started with only a light frost but by mid morning it was snowing heavily. When it stopped there was a good couple of inches on everything but it seemed to start thawing almost straight away.
The Cotoneaster at the bottom of our drive really is the gift that keeps on giving. It has featured in a couple of blips over the last few months as the foliage went from green, to red, to nothing. Today, I managed to grab this shot of the freshly fallen snow contrasting sharply with the bright red berries.
By mid afternoon the snow had totally disappeared from the roads and pavements so we could get out for a walk. It was still very cold though, which meant the snow stayed on the trees. Quite surreal looking at this very picturesque “winter wonderland” landscape, whilst walking on clear, dry paths. Needless to say, by the time we returned from the walk the snow had disappeared totally from the garden so I’m glad I grabbed the photo when I did.
One thing you can say about this lockdown is, despite the concern that each day would be the same monotonous grind, there’s actually something different to see every day. Especially if you make a point of looking for it...
