The line to Rolvenden
It turned out very nice especially in the afternoon. Cold and sunny. As house viewing is allowed we travelled down to Tenterden to visit the site where we are considering buying a new house for a look at their 3D site model and to see the show homes.
We we’re impressed by the interiors which gave a great feeling of space with high ceilings and tall doors. We were less impressed by the surrounding with many houses where the backs and gardens were too overlooked.
A cheese and onion flan, fruit loaf and coffee formed lunch after which we went on a grand tour of all the houses in Tenterden that have attracted our interest. Of those one was caught our attention although it was just above our budget. It had a large, sunny, south facing garden backing onto some woods. Viewings will start in February.
On the walk we met a couple from the KESR, with whom we had a good chat. By which time it was getting cold and time to go home, via this view of the railway (and extra - which is a view I’ve not seen before)
In this shot you can see the steep gradient of the 1:50 Tenterden bank with the section signal permitting access to the single line to Rolvenden. Below the section signal, with the S on it is the Shunt Ahead signal giving the driver permission to pass the section signal, enter the section and proceed as far as the Limit of Shunt board further down the line.
Also in this view is the disk shunt signal giving permission for an engine that has run around from the train to proceed to couple up to the carriages in the platform. The wires that work the up home signals (just visible, middle right) make their way down the bank. A previous blip shows the view from the signal back towards the level crossing from where today’s shot was taken.
It’ll be a while until a train storms Tenterden bank again.
