2015-06-12 (Day 163)
This is the Avon Gorge bridge, on the A801 that links the M8 and M9 motorways. It has been due to be replaced for at least the twenty years I have lived in the Falkirk area, and almost every year gets blocked in winter because of accidents involving the heavy vehicles that cross the bridge.
The footpath here is hard to find, but once you're on it is well signposted. It is billed as being part of the Avon Heritage Trail, but there are also John Muir Way signs, so it must be part of the long-distance route.
It's pretty here, but if you do fancy walking this stretch I would recommend good walking shoes and long trousers - it's hard to avoid brushing against the grass and I was constantly worried I would get tics!
