Mumma Seal & pup
Soooooo.......today, after a suitably lengthy breakfast, I left my camping spot and headed through the metropolis of Ngawi township (population - miniscule) towards Cape Palliser. Of course, there were distractions galore along the way, most of them in and around the water. It's been a stunning day - the warmest so far for my holiday - and the local seals (population - gi-normous) seemed to be enjoying lolling with their pups who, being so very young, simply wanted to feed, play and rest (extras). I spent a ridiculously long time in the blazing sunshine simply observing their antics - what an absolute treat.
Decision time. As the Cape Palliser lighthouse was just around the corner I thought I should probably pop along for a visit and of course, a visit to a lighthouse must, wherever possible, include a climb up the hill - or in this case, steps.....all 240-odd of them - for the view. I wasn't disappointed.
The return saw more seal observations and by mid-afternoon it seemed silly to think about heading back towards civilization. It was an easy decision to stay another night in this wonderful, remote wee corner of the world.
