You may have seen this before
Anyone who has flown in or out of Gatwick airport may have seen this church before. It is St Michael and All Angels Church, Lowfield Heath, a depopulated former village near Crawley, West Sussex. The church was built in 1867 to serve the village, which declined in importance as Lowfield Heath was gradually swallowed up in the expansion of London Gatwick Airport. The last Anglican service was held there in 2004.
It's now the only building remaining in the area from the time before the LGW existed, everything else has been demolished, and this sad little church now stands among warehouses, depots and light industrial units.
So, next time you're sittting on the runway waiting for take off look to your right to see St Michaels and All Saints Church.
