Harebrained

A very quiet day, I just did a bit of my jigsaw, waxed my new oak cabinet and watched the excellent film on Netflix 'The Dig' about the discovery of an Anglo-Saxon burial ground at Sutton Hoo. A couple of friends and I were due to go there last year, but we cancelled because of the virus - we have our fingers crossed for this Summer. Another hare ornament for my blip.

Day 321 / Day 26 of Lockdown 3 (for my record only)
UK deaths up 1,200 to 105,571 (revised basis), with 23,275 new cases, 34,783 patients in hospital, 3,832 on ventilation and 3,117 new admissions. c8.4m have now received their first dose of the vaccine. Interesting that the infection survey results show cases are pretty steady, but the daily figures are coming down. The EU backtracked last night and withdrew their triggering of Article 16 to stop vaccines entering NI. The Health Secretary has tweeting that 5 in 6 over 80s and 2 in 3 75-79 year olds have now been vaccinated. It is exactly 1 year since the first person in the UK died from coronavirus, although this was not officially discovered until 7 months later from testing tissue samples. Peter Attwood was aged 84, lived in Kent and had gone into hospital weeks earlier with symptoms like Covid. His daughter and granddaughter were ill before xmas with similar symptoms. The epidemiologist leading the Zoe Covid Symptom Study said that data 'clearly shows many people had the virus back in December' .....and 'there are some cases going back to November but there are less of them.'
