Hell on wheels

We had to have two attempts at shopping tonight.

I wanted to go to Aldi for a change; I’ve not been since my accident and I much prefer the selection of fruit and vegetables they have there. Plus, it seems to stay fresh for longer.

First attempt at our local store and we were thwarted by the wheelchair trollies. Although there were 4 of them, try as he may, Mr A couldn’t get any of them loose. Plus, the first one in the line decided to swallow our pound coin!
An assistant was called. She also failed, so called the manager. He ended up getting bolt cutters from his car, but still couldn’t get us a trolley. He did however get the pound coin back.

Off then to the next nearest Aldi. All was well until we came to pay. Whoever installed the new Perspex screens obviously didn’t check the clearance for wheelchair users. We didn’t fit!!
Mr A had to back me out of the lane and wheel me through the lane at the end of the row, luckily we managed to get through there.

In fairness, the staff were really helpful and we had a laugh about it, but it has made me more aware of the issues faced by people with long term disabilities.

My blip was taken while I was waiting outside for Mr A to get assistance, with a nice view (imho) of the Accrington viaduct :-)
