Aunt Jenny's Noritake
Great Aunt Jenny was born in 1890 and died aged 90. She was the youngest daughter so had to stay home to look after Mum. WWI put paid to her chance of marriage and she always lived with my Granny and Granddad.
She worked as a care assistant until she was too infirm to carry on, and saw out her days in the care home where she had always worked. She was always kind and gentle though I don't remember her ever expressing an opinion. Except that Christmas Day when Mum wanted to watch the Queen's Speech, Jenny declared TV at Christmas to be a sin, and sat on the stairs with a hankie over her head (why???) till it finished.
When she died, the family pounced on her things, and sifted out the bits of silver, as families will. I was sent this vase with the memorable "you can have this, it isn't worth anything". Actually it's Noritake but that's not the point, is it?
People live on for as long as you remember them. Jenny was a gentle soul. She is here, with this rosebud, in her vase.
