Buffalo

At one end of the main street in the village is a swing bridge crossing the Manchester Shop Canal. It takes about 15 minutes for the bridge to open, allow a vessel through and close again.

When the bridge is out traffic queues build up in the village. Thankfully there is not too much traffic on the canal these days.

When we walked down into the village we could tell, because of the standing traffic, that the bridge was out. We went down for look and saw the maintenance barge Buffalo dropping off supplies for work on the canal bank. It didn't take them long to offload and getting underway.

From where we were standing you can see 10 canal crossings.
