Singin’ Hinnies

Having started the Tamagotchi process with the sour dough bread somehow reminded me of my Granny’s baking. Not that she had time for the sour dough performance but she did make soda bread (fast and nutritious) and Singin’ Hinnies.* I remembered getting one warm off the girdle (southern people would say gridle) when I was wee. So I googled and found a recipe and the Blip is the result. They are delicious. There’s more fat and sugar than in scones and much less milk.

I had a 3.5 mile walk over to the other side of the valley by Whitton, first dropping of some of the baking for Chris and then Phil who had a birthday recently so the Beetroot Brownies went there.

By the time I got back the dough needed seeing to. It seems a bit wet. I still have a few more hours of folding to go so maybe it won’t be so bad later? Jack had me water spraying the dough, the work surface and my hands.

The blanket is getting its edging shells done so #2 daughter can have it for her birthday as the cotton for the coat has still not arrived.

It’s spanakopita for our meal tonight. And Jo in Cornwall on FaceTime - lovely to chat to her - we do get a laugh together. Much needed, as a lot of my friends seem very down just now. And it’s easy to get dragged down in sympathy.

* Tbey are Northumbrian- Hinnie is a term of endearment for a female a bit like hen in Scotland of duck further south.
