A Day In The Life

Up, Up, and Away

Before picking up a few needed items at the grocery store we stopped by The Boat Landing to see what was around. The river is closing up with ice so all of the ducks were gathered in the only patch of open water visible from shore. Mallards and Mergansers • For twenty minutes we observed a juvenile eagle perched in a tree on the opposite shore. Our patience was rewarded when he leaned forward, spread his wings and launched himself downriver. Their wingspan is typically six to seven feet. A magnificent sight! • With ice finally forming we noticed several smelt camps had been setup not far from the shore. For many it’s a winter tradition to huddle inside these camps with a fire, a few buddies and a cooler of beer, whether the smelts are biting or not. It isn’t a pastime that’s ever appealed to MrsP and me. We’ve declined the few invitations received over the years, lol! • Quack-Quack!
