Alder

It was pretty cold today, we had the edge of the 'Beast from the East', but it stayed dry. Tomorrow it looks like we may get snow, strong winds and the bitter cold, I may stay in bed!

We had a really nice family quiz and chat on Zoom this morning. We actually came joint first!  After lunch I took a shortish walk to Shottery and wandered round the deserted car park that is becoming a nature reserve.  I spotted these catkins and cones on one of the trees by the brook.  They are different to the normal run-of-the-mill catkins, which they also have in the car park; on investigation, thanks Google, I discovered they are from an Alder tree.
