West Hills House

We headed out in sunshine, between the intermittent hail and snow showers, for the 3 mile West Hills and Pondicherry round. This house is where our retired GP lives.

Our neighbour who is a teacher had to walk down to the village to get a lift to work as she didn’t dare take her car along our road. There is a very deep flooded stretch where the water hadn’t drained away.

Book Group 1 was Ali Smith’s Autumn. Only 3 of us liked it but it gave us lots to talk about. I left the meeting when they started comparing supermarket deliveries. There’s books to read and crochet to do.

Thank you for your good wishes - I am almost back to normal. I have been told that having a reaction to the jag means I have a lively immune system!

The Guardian is investigating the fact that’s the Queen, who is allegedly above interfering in politics, actually had the law changed in 1973 so that her wealth in shares couldn’t be disclosed. The article also told us that her Sandringham estate got almost £1 million in taxpayers money as farm subsidies last year.. I understand her tenant farmers, who are actually looking after the land, don’t get the cash. Surely that can’t be right?

Other news is that a member of the Patterdale Search and Rescue team has been seriously hurt in a fall after being called out to assist a camper with chest pains. The campers came from Leicester to the Lakes and got fined £200 for being out of their area. The rescue team member has life-changing injuries,
