Amazing Luck

I was writing this morning about a former boss of mine; he died 6 years ago. One thing I knew about him was that as a national serviceman he was sent to Korea as a member of the 1st Battalion the Gloucestershire Regiment (The Glorious Glosters).

He never spoke much of his time but I did know he was one of about 40 soldiers who, at the Battle of Imjin River, after fierce fighting against the invading Chinese, made it back to the safety of the UN Lines. 59 soldiers were killed in action and 522 were taken prisoner.

Doing some on-line research I can across this Imperial War Museum photograph. Don is in the front row, second from the right! An amazing find.
