World Radio Day

“Video killed the Radio Star” so the 1980 pop lyric went . Back then I did wonder if there might be some truth to that prophecy. 41 years on I have no doubt whatsoever that that notion was completely fake news.

World Radio Day was decided by UNESCO on 3 November 2011 during its 36th conference. It is marked around the world on 13th February.

I am an avid radio listener and love it because you can multi task while still listening. Podcasts and audio books have extended the “radio” reach and become increasingly popular since lockdown.

My Blip shows our original DAB radio which sits on the mantelpiece in front of our map of the world so it is easy to identify countries and cities mentioned over the “ether”, digital bytes or bouncing off the ionosphere on old school airwaves.

England beat Italy but Scotland lost to Wales by one point in today’s 6 Nations Rugby. So close ... but so far. Hey ho.

It was still bitterly cold today.
