Frozen Promenade
I noticed these longer sunny shadows flickering onto the frozen promenade in the late afternoon. They brought a sign of spring coming soon. That thought had clearly also crossed the mind of the swimmers, in my extra Blip, who think that summer has already arrived!
First thing I took some photos from the upstairs window. The light was perfect for highlighting the deep snow on the Pentlands to the south and the pristine whiteness covering the Ochills to the west. The distinctive twin peaks of the Lomonds were also visible to the north. From the other window I could see the snowfields of East Lothian stretching away towards North Berwick Law. While we are locked down within the City of Edinburgh boundaries we count our blessings that we are able to enjoy these long distance views. When we will be allowed to travel to these "sights" again is anyone's guess. The reports of closing Scotland's border with England fills me with a great sense of forboding. If that happened we would be unable to see our children and grandchildren at all. I know thousand of others are in even less certainty about seeing their families again if they live outwith the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland.
I hope that those rays of late sunlight shining through the closed gates on the promenade this afternoon will prove to be a good omen of the hope of locked down being lifted sooner than later.
