Botanics - Girl

A decent walk down to the Botanics today.  The sun was out and the temperature up - what a change in 24 hours!  The snow has almost completely gone although as you can see in this photo some of the ponds are still frozen.  This sculpture is Girl by Reg Butler; it's in the small ornamental pond to the side of Inverleith House.  Butler was an assistant to Henry Moore.  He won the "Unknown Political Prisoner" international competition in 1953 against entries from the likes of  Barbara Hepworth.  He became one of the best known sculptors in the 1950s and 60s.
