Money for nothing ...

Decimal Day 50th Anniversary

Showing my age! I remember this day in 1971 very clearly! I was delighted to see the back of all those pounds, shillings and pennies problem sums! 240 pennies in a pound, and also 20 shillings, but only 12 pennies in a shilling! I was sorry though, to see the farthing chews at the sweetie shop disappear! I was also easily confused by the half pence that was introduced for a while to attempt to ease the inflationary pressures of the new pence.

Our son-in-law-law won a competition for his family to meet England Football Manager, Gareth Southgate. That took place virtually this afternoon. It lasted 24 minutes and provided a fascinating insight into his humility and leadership.
