A morning turn around Streatham Rookery and Norwood Grove before heading home to wrestle some writing into shape. I got it done and it's safely with the editor. I left a tricky section to the last minute – I know by now to tackle those bits first. But do I listen to myself? Nope. Next time, though...
Later on, I had something in the diary! I'd "won" a ticket (chosen in a big raffle selection) to be in the audience for Radio 4's Just a Minute. The rules are that you need up-to-date Google Chrome and Zoom, headphones must be worn, and the room needs to be quiet. Fred managed to work out how to link two headphones to my computer so he could listen, too – he's so clever. The only thing we couldn't control was external sound. The cat will do what he wants, though he was good and miaowed only once. He did have a bash at the cat flap at one point, but Fred pushed him through and that was the end of that.
So, to the show itself. That was very fun, and it turned out to be the recording of two shows rather than one. Logged into Zoom, we watched Sue Perkins appear, then Paul Merton, Jenni Eclair, Desiree Birch, Stephen Fry (in sunny LA), and finally a very cool looking whistleblower who physically blows the whistle at the end of every minute. Thankfully, the audience is heard but not seen. Sue Perkins announced that the recording of the first show would take precisely 40 minutes and no longer because she had roast potatoes in the oven. She left her camera on in the interval and we saw her take out the roasties – they looked delicious. It was kind of weird watching her in the kitchen. I felt I shouldn't be looking! Sue Perkins was the host of the first show and Stephen Fry the host of the second. Both were very funny and I'm looking forward to hearing the show when it airs to see what makes the edit. I was impressed by how well the recording was managed – it seemed very slick. Well, apart from buzzers being pressed by accident on touchpads, but that just added to the fun.
