Sock exchange
Dropped into FACT today to meet #1 son for lunch, only to discover him having a meeting in what appeared to be a room full of washing (no change there then). Lots of activity going on with sewing and knitting machines and boxes full of coloured wool. If I'd known, I could have offloaded his mountain of odd socks (he claims my washing machine sends them to another point in time and space). It's still on till Sunday if anyone's around the 'Pool, details below or for more info click here.
Liverpool-based artist Kai-Oi Jay Yung spends a week in residence developing Sock Exchange, inviting local inhabitants to drop in during gallery hours with their worn and mismatched socks where she will darn then lovingly embellish each one. Yung uncovers the sock's supply chain and hints at industry costs entailed in sock manufacturing and its price implications to our environment.
