Leveret
I was clearing away the beech leaves from around the lavender plants when something furry wriggled under my hand. It was this tiny leveret, about the size of my hand, and so well camouflaged that I hadn't seen it from a foot away. Its eyes are open so it must be at least a couple of weeks old (born in that terrible weather!). My study window looks down on this lavender bed, and I have seen the adult hare weaving about among the lavender plants, and now I know why.
In the extra you can't see its eye but you can see its ears.
