Daphne mezerium

Another lovely sunny day saw us exploring the hazel coppice at Howe Ridding in search of the elusive and rare Daphne mezerium. This little shrub has a delightful scent, which wafts through the February air as the tiny flowers open. You can see from the photo that it’s pretty difficult to spot, just looking like a bare stem. We were
lucky to find two, not quite in flower yet.
The coppice work is just about finished, (see extra) so I am looking forward to seeing some butterflies using it very soon!

Rob had his COVID-19 jab as well so that’s good news!
