Wintering Swans
Standoffish, regal,
making the best of the cold
months on the river
~ carliewired
Trumpeter swans are our largest waterfowl, dwarfing even the Canada geese who keep their distance from these white dominators. Today, the trumpeters were most evident on the river shore by Riverside Park in the downtown.
As weather warms and the season advances, the trumpeters will pick up and head north to more remote locations to raise their broods.
Ice is beginning to move and melt from the river. Reflections are now noticeable. Some sheets are piling up in the channels. The swans seem to like the ice shelf along the shorelines.
