Looking down
An average day really - dull with occasional showers. I put the wellies on and went for a walk up at 'the Hydro', which for those not familiar with Oban is the name given to the ruins of the Oban Hills Hydropathic Sanatorium - see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oban_Hydro
The Hydro sits in a huge area of high land in the centre of Oban, some open, much of it wooded, with cliffs and glens and wonderful views. It's used by the residents for many purposes - dog walking, human walking, motor biking, cycling, camping and partying. The latter is a pain as there are vast amounts of rubbish left there, mostly of the cans and bottles persuasion, which are regularly cleaned up by local volunteers, including, I must add, 'Keep Oban Beautiful'. I had to get a bit of advertising in there! People have fires, cut down trees and generally make a mess, but the land is privately owned and the owner doesn't seem to care what goes on there. I suppose it's the fact that it is privately owned which accounts for the very dangerous building being totally accessible - a very serious accident waiting to happen. In another place and in other circumstances it could be a wonderful open air asset to the town.
On the way down I saw the 'Isle of Mull' coming in and managed to get a picture through the trees, with the North Pier in the foreground and the islands of Kerrera and Mull in the background.
Quote of the Day:
Thomas Campbell (Lord Ullin's Daughter) - “A chieftain to the Highlands bound, Cries, "Boatman, do not tarry! And I'll give thee a silver pound, To row us o'er the ferry!"
