The old bus station

I walked past just in time to see the end of the demolition of the old bus station, Great Western Road, Kirkwall.

It was about 70 years old and by no means a thing of beauty, but I'm sure many Orcadians have happy memories of when it was in use. In 2008 a new bus station was established up the road, as part of the Travel Centre with a Tourist Information centre as well as waiting room and toilets.

The council's planning department reported that the old building had 'some cultural interest'.... but not enough. However its steel framed windows are to be kept for future use.
