Leith decides
After a vigorous session of Ashtanga yoga in the morning I popped in to Out of the Blue on Dalmeny St to register my vote in "Leith decides" - ie on what local community projects are favourites to receive some funding this year. Huge sums are not involved; the average project was bidding for something in the region of £1000. As you can see, it excited great interest - the place was hoachin'!
It was good to see the place buzzing so happily; in the collective Leith mind there is still a sadness about the building because of its connection with the horrific train crash near Gretna at the start of WWI. 227 people died, 102 of them young soldiers from the Leith battalion. The bodies of those not burned beyond recognition were brought back to Leith and laid out in this Drill Hall prior to being buried in the nearby Rosebank Cemetery.
