Helter-skelter

Sewing Saturday.

My daughter went back to sewing class this morning. She is making a rabbit door-stop this time but here she is with the toy-tidy she made in the half-term workshop. A sewing machine is definitely on her birthday wish-list!

As for me, my good mate Bob the Postie delivered my degree certificate this morning. Its photo has already received my all-time highest number of 'likes' on Facebook (thanks, guys!) and I have to admit, now it's here I do quite like it too!

In my excitement about surviving last week's lessons, I forgot to mention that I actually got hit in the face by a student on Monday! 100% accidental - the students were making those model houses again and I just happened to walk past a boy as the box he was trying to pull apart suddenly did and his arm flew out. Poor kid was horrified but it was quite funny! Hopefully that won't happen too often, though, ha, ha!

Tuesday's lesson was all about an Amazon rainforest tribe and as the starter I asked the kids to imagine we were a tribe, linked as we are through the common culture of our school, and then they had to answer some questions about their life as a member of our tribe, which they would then compare to the life of an Amazonian tribe child at the end of the lesson. I said that the chief was usually the oldest member of the tribe and when I asked them who the oldest person in the room was, they said their normal teacher, who was there observing the lesson. Considering I'm old enough to be his mother, you can imagine how nice that was (even if it wasn't really that I looked younger!).
