maundy thursday

today is a feast day. beautiful. beautiful that the christian calendar moves seamlessly through palm sunday (hosanna!), to maundy thursday a feast day of celebration, into good friday a time of deep sorrow (crucify him!), down into holy saturday, and lifted up into the redemption of easter (alleluia!).

i am struck by the contrast of good friday and easter. i hope it never ceases to amaze me. sunday is meaningless without friday. and friday is meaningless without sunday. but together the world is profoundly and utterly altered and nothing, nothing is the same. id like to rest in this paradox awhile.

but first we feasted. and we remembered the faithfulness of YAHWEH to the jews and prepared for the final sacrifice.

this was our feast.
