Oparara Caves

Alaric and I got away for some bro-mance today. We've been nicknamed Maverick and 5000 by the girls.

It was a great getaway followed by some of the following: Windows rolled down cruising to Karamea, the literal end of the road. A place where wanders and dreamers gather and concentrate. Mince pies and ice cream on the sidewalk. A cute french girl in a thrift store. Dust kicking up through thick bush. Photographing along the Kohaihai river mouth. Brown and golden tannin stained waters. Clear as honey oozing to the sea under a canopy of green. The immense, limestone caves of Oparara pockmarked with indentations. Bats and cave swallows shriek through the shadows. And beach wanderings beside the shaggy primordial forests of Kahaurangi. Cold swims in the river mouth and enchanted hikes through the nikua palm groves on the edge of the wild. The end of the road.

This is a shot of Alaric photographing in the Oparara basin. The Mav is an excellent photographer in his own right.
