Birthday Bash - Pandemic style
Today was my husband, Stan's 70th birthday and I tried to make it as special as possible under the circumstances. The Glenstone Museum which is just a few miles from our home opened up the grounds for the first time so we spent the morning there. We came home for a quick lunch before we headed downtown to the Lincoln Memorial. When my husband was 10, his father took a photo of him with the statue of Abe Lincoln, so we tried to replicate it 60 years later. I think it worked and I have loaded that in extra.
In early evening we had an hour-long Zoom with 4 sons, wives and 8 grandkids. After 30 minutes, all my husband's cousins joined in so it was quite chaotic. Stan is the linchpin of his family. Although he is an only child, he had 18 first cousins with whom he grew up and he goes out of his way to stay in contact with them and they all adore him.
I had ordered a New York deli dinner delivered from the Bronx via Goldbelly, consisting of matza ball soup, knishes, corned beef, pastrami, rye bread, cole slaw, pickles, rugelach and so I tried to replicate the deli experience. It was fabulous and he loved it.
One of our sons had a 20 layer chocolate cake delivered, also from NYC. Our first thought and lingering thoughts were "who is going to eat all this??"
After dinner we had an hour and a half Zoom with friends, local and from all over the country. I always marvel that my husband has managed to maintain contact with people from every stage of his life and they all showed up last night for the Zoom. It was so much fun and he just loved it all.
I spent the next hour cutting up that cake to take some to the neighbors and local son, and have frozen the rest. A picture of the cake is in extra too. It was a bit unwieldy.
This a picture of a wall on one of the pavilions at Glenstone. I loved the light and shadows. Maybe it will work for Abstract Thursday?
