A Year in Phnom Penh

We decided to get out of the city for a bit this weekend. 15 minutes on the moto and we were able to find a little of rural life, staying in a small guesthouse with a pool, electricity off by 9p.m. and some early morning birdwatching in nearby fields/ lakes.

It is a stark reminder of something I know but don't appreciate enough...that I don't live in Cambodia, but Phnom Penh and the two are very different. Just a few km out of the city and life seems to go back several decades, and centres around growing enough rice to feed the family and maybe catching a fish if you're lucky.

Good to remember how most of the world live.
