WINTER AUTOCROSS
I spent the day at the track (Road America...America's National Park of Speed) shooting Winter Autocross. Typically...there's snow which makes it a lot more fun as competitors run three separate courses for time...fastest overall time wins. There are trophies and bragging rights in three different categories...RWD, FWD and AWD/4WD.
Due to the warm weather we've been having, along with freezing nights, challenging conditions presented themselves. Most of the snow on the track surface has melted but not so along the grass surface where the ground is still frozen. Over night, the snow froze into what might be called terrestrial icebergs. If a car went slightly off track, those icebergs could damage it seriously. So the edges were plowed back a little bit to mitigate those circumstances. It got better as the day went on and the sun warmed the icebergs into slush.
EXTRA.....taken during an earlier autocross competition showing some snow. I think we can agree that snow makes for a fun experience. Best viewed in LARGE.
