No idea
I give up - nobody seems to know what the hell sort of flower this is, so I'm putting it out there in the hope a Blipper might recognise it. Any takers?
Think the sparkles covering the petals of this small flower are an artefact of shooting in the bright midday sun. Their real colour is better rendered in today's Extra photo.
Not particularly au fait with the botanical names of a plant's component parts, but the flowers are part of a ground cover that sports a series of stems spreading out from the centre, each with pairs of smooth-edged pointed leaves located along its length. If that sounds a bit nondescript, that's because it is. The bright blue flowers with yellow-tipped stamens are definitely the star attraction here - everything else is supporting cast.
The plant is growing in semi-shade under the stairs of an outside deck. While it's connected up to an automated watering system via a dedicated dripper, it's definitely of the extremely hardy variety - because it's survived very well despite full exposure to the late afternoon sun during some very hot summer days, and not having received an iota of care or attention - let alone some fertiliser or mulching material - in at least 7 years.
So I'd highly recommend this plant to anyone who asked - but can't really until I've found a name for it. For local residents, of course, I would happily organise a cutting for you to try propagating it yourself. Might even be able to throw in a handful or two of the clapped-out soil it's been thriving in - which has a lot more in common with dust than soil rich in nutrients and organic material.
Only condition that would apply is telling me the name of the bloody thing if you were to find out.
