Goldfinches

Today's the day .......................... to go out for Sunday lunch

We went to Sizergh Castle today in the eternal search for hawfinches. MsGable had said they were there - and they probably were - but they're very shy birds and there were probably too many people making lots of noise by the time we got there.

So we didn't knowingly see any - but it was worth going just to see all the birds that come to the feeders there. It's obviously a well-known locality in the local bird population - and just the place to go for a slap-up Sunday lunch.

These goldfinches were my favourite. I mean - who can resist their cheeky little faces. They may be small - but they have real attitude and defend their right to hang in there and eat with the best of them .......................
