Sakura

Went with my wife to a riverside area not far where there are about 1000 sakura trees lining the riverside. It was really beautiful, though it gradually got a bit too cool to stay outside. Japanese love these trees. I also feel it is too bad the blossoms only last for a week or so. This year is rare in that in the Sendai area the best time to view the blossoms came on a weekend. The Japanese have something called the sakura zensen which refers to the line which gradually moves up the islands as the cherry treed begin to bloom. In other words you could start in the southern part of the island and follow the blossoming trees north over a period of a few weeks. That is if you really want to get your fill of there soft pink color.
