Grouse

Having watched The North York Moors A Wild Year last night I suggested a walk from the top of Chimney Bank along the old railway track. The first extra shows the old kilns and information board about the Ironstone industry.
This was the location of a large chimney which was removed a number of years ago on the grounds of safety.

We walked part of the railway track which has a good surface for cycling and walking. I had heard the grouse and suggested to Richard we tried one of the tracks leading to the shooting butts. I no sooner had started along one when a Grouse landed in front of me and walked into the heather. Thankfully it stopped to pose for a photo.

I couldn’t resist the Swaledale sheep giving Jet the hard stare. These moorland sheep are late to lamb due to the exposed conditions. Not a soul around today ...it may have something to do with the cool damp conditions but it didn’t deter us.
