Who killed Bambi?
At about six I get a call from my neighbour, Stewart. He’s spotted a freshly dead roe deer down by the stream. Nick and I go to investigate.
Sure enough, it’s waiting to be collected. We barrow it up to the shed, hang it up and gralloch it. It’s still warm. There are two puncture wounds on the foreleg and a fatal wound on the jugular. We guess that someone’s dog must have brought it down an hour or so ago.
And so, we have the treat of liver for tea and another job for the weekend list.
