Honey, I Shrunk the Hive!
Steve Brozyna, with whom I work, is an apiarist. Recently, a bee tree developed near work. Rather than the bees beecoming a problem, Steve is attempting an apiactomy. Since they will be itching for a new home, he is trying to give them hives. He attached a plastic funnel and tube to their entrance while it was still cold in the morning. To get out, the bees have to crawl down the tube - the Bee-Line Expressway - through a new nesting box. The idea is they would nest in the new box and could be moved to Steve's "farm". He can probably coax them since he has such a swarm personality. Steve's attitude is "build it and they will comb." After a practical warning from Steve "If that begin to bump into you, you are beeing threatened. Also, the bees are soothed by music so sing 'Shoo bee, shoo bee do'." Thanks, Steve - helpful as always. I got out my longest telephoto and got down wind from them so I could keep the sting out of the experience.
