Gone and going

When in town yesterday I stopped at the Mound to photograph the rainbow laid out in trays of plants. Various nurseries in the Edinburgh area had come together to place 12,000 plants to form the rainbow to mark a thank you to all who have supported us over the past year.

The photos were fine but I thought that Greyfriars Bobby yesterday was better and I’d decided to go back today to take some better photos.

By the time I got there (at 9:30 am) they had all gone! So as an extra here’s a couple from yesterday.

I’d also missed the laser rainbow display from the Castle last night and hoped that it would be repeated tonight – but notwithstanding the cloud and rain we could not see any lights in the sky – so assumed they were not on display again.

Hence the photo of the nearby tree (blipped on 5 March) now in full bloom.

It was also a day that marked the departure of some MSPs with whom I’ve worked. Most notable are Bruce Crawford who was a civil servant I worked alongside in my first job. Aileen Campbell who as Children’s Minister steered many policies through Parliament. And Mike Russell - feorlean – who was one of 2 people who started me on Blipfoto.

The other was Louise Macdonald - louisemac – who today announced she is moving on in the summer to become the first female national Director of the Institute of Directors Scotland. She had been not only a stalwart of YoungScot and a passionate advocate for young people all the time I have known her but also a driving force for change and equality in many areas in particular for women.

I wish them and others every best wish in the next stages of their lives.
